In 2023 Frezza took an important step forward and laid an essential foundation for its future by publishing its first Sustainability Report. This document is the fruit of a challenging work of analysis, evaluation and planning whose main purpose is to reduce the company’s social and environmental impacts. This activity involved all corporate departments and key stakeholders.

Our goal was clearly summarised by Cristian Faggiani, Frezza’s General Manager, in his Letter to the Stakeholders: “We want to embark on a path with the aim of providing concrete answers in line with a new idea of industrial development, based on the extended and integrated concept of sustainability”.

The name of our report, Design for Evolution, derives precisely from this thought.

From analysis to goals

The first tangible result of our work was the Materiality Assessment, which involved more than 800 stakeholders and identified the most relevant issues for the company and its partners. We interviewed employees, external collaborators, B2B and B2C customers, suppliers, employment agencies, financial institutions and local communities.

This process was the starting point for defining goals, commitments and planned actions designed to be completed by 2026, as outlined in the document.

The 2022 Sustainability Report

Design for Evolution is divided into six separate chapters, which detail the company’s vision, strategy and governance, the role of the people who work in it, the impact it has on the environment and its generated value.

We have identified four Sustainable Development Goals of the UN 2030 Agenda as priorities:

  • Health and well-being – We are committed to developing products that promote well-being in working environments. We also aim to create an inclusive, rewarding and collaborative business climate, while ensuring safety in the workplace and supporting local communities.
  • Responsible consumption and production – We are focusing our investments on ecodesign and on circular economy. This implies designing with a mindset that extends the lifespan of products, promotes their reparability, facilitates recycling and valorises waste. At the same time, we are prioritising a short supply chain.
  • Combating climate change – We prioritise the responsible use of resources and energy efficiency, as well as the use of renewable energy. These efforts aim to reduce climate-changing gas emissions by integrating efficiency strategies at all stages of our product’s life cycle.
  • Partnership for the Goals – Sharing vision, knowledge and tools with our stakeholders is crucial. We actively engage in joint circular economy projects. Environmentally sustainable design requires the collaboration of multiple players in the product life cycle. For this purpose we are creating a coordinated partner network with the common goal of reducing the impact of our products.

These goals are complemented by others closely interlinked ones, such as quality education, gender equality, decent work, clean energy, reduced inequality and innovation.

To achieve them, we’ve outlined a roadmap of concrete actions. These include the purchase of energy-efficient machinery, the installation of photovoltaic systems, packaging improvements, the development of eco-design techniques and the assessment of product impacts through the LCA methodology. The company is also creating a network of partners to promote circular economy.

The 2022 Sustainability Report testifies to Frezza’s ambition to redefine and improve the concept of design. It’s not just about designing a product, but also about designing a regenerative lifestyle and economic model that creates lasting value for people and the environment.

Frezza strives to promote a continuously evolving design, by putting people at the heart of its work and aspiring to become a virtuous example of innovation in the market for a sustainable future.
